In Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet), the main character, Constance Ledbelly, theorizes that Shakespeare’s plays were originally written differently. She goes on a subconscious journey into the worlds of Romeo & Juliet and Othello to turn tragedy to comedy. Since most of the play happens within Constance’s mind or dream, the costumes of the “plays” were designed to be both caricatures and cliché. Everything is exaggerated including the vivid colors. Images of pop culture are mashed up within the more traditional Renaissance elements.
